Pamela writes for all reading levels and her work
includes nonfiction as well as both contemporary and historical fiction.
She has written books about nature, history, and geography, and biographies of Nelson Mandela, Benedict Arnold, Miles Davis, and
Socrates, among others. She has also published a 12-book series of historical
fiction collectively titled "Scrapbooks of America." In 2006, Pamela was contracted by the Chicago History
Museum to create two pieces of historical fiction about Chicago for elementary
school students. These stories, about the "Black Sox" scandal of 1919
and the Great Migration after World War II, are part of the museum’s “Great
Chicago Stories” project. As such, they will appear on the museum’s website
and are being used in third-grade classrooms throughout the state to teach
Illinois history. Most recently, Pamela was selected by the Cricket
Magazine Group to create an ongoing fictional series for its magazine
Spider, for readers 6 –10 years old. The first episode of the “Doodlebug
and Dandelion” series appears in Spider’s January 2008 issue. Much of Pamela’s work has been in developing content
that uplifts and empowers preteen and teenage girls. She spent six years
as an editor at Teen, a beauty and fashion magazine for girls 12-16, and
during the last half of the 1990s was director of content at Purple Moon
Media, a girl-focused interactive multimedia company that was based in
San Francisco. Pamela divides her time between Santa Monica, California, and Chicago and enjoys speaking with kids about books, multimedia, the writing process, and anything else they’re curious about. Contact Information:
