Laura Crawford has always loved science and social studies,
especially American history and animals. As a teacher at Sleepy Hollow Elementary
School, Laura enjoys the opportunity to explore these subjects along with
her students.
Her first book was Pilgrims’ Thanksgiving From A to Z (Pelican Publishing, 2005). She found that most Thanksgiving books were either too simple or too complicated for classroom instruction. Knowing her young students were always fascinated by the holiday, she decided to write a book for elementary-aged children and their families about the first Thanksgiving. Her second book, In Arctic Waters, is a cumulative tale that was released with Sylvan Dell in 2007. While teaching a science unit on the polar regions, she became fascinated with the unique animals of the Arctic. Like the rest of her picture books, this one seeks to teach young readers factual information while entertaining them with a fun story. Her series with Raven Tree Press will be released in 2008. Postcards From Washington, Postcards From Chicago and Postcards From New York City introduce elementary students to the historic and entertaining aspects of these important cities. All three are a perfect supplement to a social studies curriculum. Upcoming books: The American Revolution From A to Z, Pelican Publishing Through interactive guidance, Laura's presentations inspire children
to write their own ABC books, cumulative tales or postcard anecdotes.
While discussing her writing and revision process, Laura emphasizes the
message that the true path to success lies in perseverance. Contact Information:
