In addition to fiction, Kim also writes nonfiction for high school readers. Muammar al-Qaddafi's Libya (2008) and Slobodan Milosevic's Yugoslavia (2009) were both released by Lerner Publishing as part of their Dictatorship Series. Kim has a Ph.D. in political science, and when she's not writing, she teaches college courses on American government. Kim grew up on Chicago's Southwest side and attended both a Chicago Public School and an elementary school that is part of Chicago's Archdiocese. She graduated from Mother McAuley High School and Northern Illinois University. She resides in the western suburbs with her husband and son, along with a collection of formerly-stray cats. She is an experienced speaker at schools, libraries, and other venues. She offers a humorous presentation called "Fairy Tales, Myths, and Dead Relatives: Creating the World of Abraxas" which is geared to middle school and junior high audiences. This presentation discusses the presence of magic in folk tales from around the world and how she incorporated those and other ideas into crafting the magical world of Abraxas in her fantasy novel. She also has a presentation focusing on the challenging yet fun process of writing a book and getting it published. This presentation, "Wimps Need Not Apply," can be geared to either adults or children. Finally, her humorous and irreverent presentation "Censorship: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" was a hit at a 2007 Illinois Library Association conference. This is a favorite for adult groups, particularly teachers, librarians, and parents. Normally there is a charge for author visits, which covers travel time
and expenses, but fees are negotiable. Contact Information:
