Julie Stiegemeyer
Invite children's author, Julie Stiegemeyer to visit your school! She'll spark your students' interest in reading and writing and give them a peek behind-the-scenes about how a book is created. Julie is the author of fourteen picture books and eight board books for children, including her newest titles, SEVEN LITTLE BUNNIES (Cavendish 2010) and GOBBLE, GOBBLE, CRASH: A BARNYARD COUNTING BASH! (Dutton 2008). Julie is not only an author but also an experienced writing instructor and ELL teacher.
During Julie's visit, she could discuss the following presentations:
"Building Sensational Stories"--Use this as a kick-off for student-author events. This is for all ages, best for second grade and up. This is a basic presentation regarding the building blocks of fiction, including setting, character, plot, conflict, etc. as well as a behind-the-scenes look into Julie's own books.
"How an Idea Becomes a Book" is a presentation that is for all ages and can be adjusted for pre-readers. Where do ideas for stories come from? Julie will use examples and many visual aids to help readers/writers think more deeply about where their own stories can come from.
"It's Springtime!" - This presentation is appropriate for preschoolers and pre-readers (in any setting, could be school, library, or bookstore). Focuses on changes children see in the springtime and highlights Julie's book CHEEP! CHEEP! about a new baby chick joining a family.
Full-day presentations include four 45-minute presentations; half-day presentations include two 45-minute presentations or three shorter presentations.
Julie could also meet with smaller groups of students in order to present a workshop of writing improvement.
