Suzanne Slade Suzanne Slade is the author over 70 children’s books, including non-fiction titles and picture books.  Her picture books include Animals are Sleeping (Sylvan Dell, 2008) and What’s New at the Zoo? (Sylvan Dell, 2009).  Upcoming picture books include Abraham’s Steps (Albert Whitman, 2010), What’s the Difference? (Sylvan Dell, 2010), and The House That George Built (Charlesbridge, 2011).

Ms. Slade’s works also include beautifully illustrated biographies of U.S. historical figures such as Susan B. Anthony, Albert Einstein, Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, Cesar Chavez, Martha Washington, Booker T. Washington and Jackie Robinson.  She has also written books about animals, insects, sports, and many science topics!

Ms. Slade enjoys visiting schools and libraries to share her engaging, hands-on presentations.  Choose your favorite from the programs offered below.

Amazing Animals
Ms. Slade will read her picture books, What’s New at the Zoo? and Animals are Sleeping with an interactive program that shares fascinating facts about many animals.   

Authors Are Awesome
Students will discover how authors turn fun facts into non-fiction books and use their creative ideas to create interesting fiction stories.  They will also hear about the publishing process and how a manuscript becomes a book.

Fascinating Figures in History
Ms. Slade will read one of her biographies and discuss the impact this individual has had in American history.  This program is especially popular in February (Black History Month) and March (Women’s History Month).
