Adam Selzer works as a writer by day and runs tours of Chicago at night (specializing in ghost tours). If you can find two better jobs than those, take them!

His first novel, HOW TO GET SUSPENDED AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE, was on the 2007 Chicago Public Schools summer reading list. He has since published several more books for young readers, including the upcoming SMART ALECKS GUIDE TO AMERICAN HISTORY and I KISSED A ZOMBIE AND I LIKED IT.

Following the publication of his first book, he became noted for his energetic school visits and speeches. At present, several different types of visit are available:

1. THE STANDARD VISIT in which Adam talks about life as an author and stresses the importance of being a lifelong learner.

2. THE HISTORY LESSON in which Adam gives hilarious, informative talks based on his SMART ALECKS GUIDE TO AMERICAN HISTORY that will make your students eager to learn more about history. (the above two are often combined).

3. THE CHICAGO TOUR - that's right, in lieu of a school visit, you can visit HIM! Adam has run ghost tours, straight up historical tours, civil war tours, and more around Chicago in his years as a tour guide and Chicago historian. Let Adam know what you've been studying, and he can probably work in a couple of related stops!

Not yet 30, Adam is an easy speaker for students to relate to. He often relates an important lesson he learned from a speaker who came to his school on career day - an old guy whose career, as Adam remembers it, was BEING an old guy. "I don't care what your grades are like," the old guy said. "If all you know is what you learn in school, you're stupid." Adam repeats this lesson, and encourages the students to "go out and be smart."
