Invite local author Mary Jo Reinhart to your school or library and hear the unique story behind the story of Mary Jo’s picture book GRINELDA THE MAD HATTER. Mary Jo’s lively presentation will encourage audience members to: Follow dreams Not bully! Be true to yourself Work to be a better writer GRINELDA THE MAD HATTER is a story about following your heart and accepting others. Grinelda is a creative young hat maker whose classmates fail to appreciate her talents until a school production of Cinderella gives her a chance to shine. But “the stepsisters” dislike anything or anyone different. Will Grinelda’s classmates come to appreciate her unique talent or will they keep their distance because she is different? Some students spend a lot of energy trying to be like one another and bully students who “don’t fit in”. GRINELDA THE MAD HATTER can teach students to value and celebrate individual differences. Help your school develop a culture of inclusion. If you ask a roomful of students if they are writers, only a few will raise their hand. Mary Jo will encourage every student to embrace their inner writer and put forth their best effort. Writing and getting published is normally a long process and it is very easy to get discouraged and give up. In fact, that’s what Mary Jo did. Luckily, a publisher returned her manuscript after holding it for two and a half years, and encouraged Mary Jo to keep writing and submitting work. With patience, hard work, and determination, you can make your dreams come true. Mary Jo lives in Lake Villa, Illinois. Arrangements for school visits are flexible, but Mary Jo has found it best to present to groups of up to 75 students for approximately 30 minutes. Included in her presentation is information from the illustrator’s perspective and visuals showcasing the unique illustration style of fabric artist Paula Nathan. A special “Hat Day” is a great way to welcome the author! Contact Information: Email: mreinhar@comcast.net
