The Milk and Cookie Girls
Who are the Milk and Cookie Girls?
Local Vernon Hills authors Laura Ripes & Michele Demas along with recent Massachusetts transferee, Kristan Ash as illustrator.

The Milk and Cookie Girls are three suburban moms with a total of 10 children between the ages of 5 and 10. Individually they each bring something unique to the process, which in turn helps them to produce a story that reflects their vision as a team. In short, they are authors, illustrators and storytellers all balled into one. The Milk and Cookie Girls are all active members of SCBWI.

What have they written?
The Milk and Cookie Girls wrote, illustrated and self-published The Cicada Symphony. The story was self-published as a coloring book for timing and cost purposes only. Seeing as though the 17 year cicada emerged this year here in Illinois they wanted to get the book out quickly. The 17 year cicada emerges at different years depending on the state. The Milk and Cookie Girls were booked to read their story at several schools throughout the area, along with bookstore signings. The Cicada Symphony is not just a book about the emergence of the cicadas, it’s also a wonderful story for children who are moving or who are just simply afraid of change.

The Cicada Symphony is a heartwarming tale about two little cicadas, Lilly and Maestro. They are preparing for their emergence after 17 long years underground, where they had been living safely and quite happily. In just 7 short days, whether they liked it or not, their lives as they knew it would never be the same.
