Eileen Meyer

Eileen Meyer enjoys writing poetry, researching nonfiction topics, crafting stories and working with elementary school students. She has had poetry published in many magazines, including HIGHLIGHTS FOR CHILDREN, LADYBUG, and HIGHLIGHTS HIGH FIVE magazines. Her nonfiction book, WHO'S FASTER: ANIMALS ON THE MOVE, will be released by Mountain Press in Fall 2012. She lives in Chicago's western suburbs. Here are a few of her programs:
                                           
AN AUTHOR’S JOURNEY:  Students learn about the path to publication. They follow the process of writing a picture book from start to finish, including:  generating a unique idea, initial research, early drafts, working with a critique group, revisions, final manuscript draft, marketing a manuscript to a publisher, signing a contract, and how a publishing house produces a book.
Grades 1 - 8, Classroom or Library setting, 30 - 40 minutes including Q & A

JOIN THE POETRY PARTY!  Students listen to zany, silly, comical, and thoughtful selections from contemporary children’s poets, and learn to identify various sound and meter techniques that are important to poetic writing.
Grades 2 - 6, Classroom or Library setting, 30-40 minutes including Q & A

SENSE-ational WRITING:  Utilizing a series of group exercises, students learn techniques to incorporate sensory detail into daily writing and poetry.
Grades 3 – 8, Classroom or Library setting, 30-40 minutes including Q & A

“POET IN RESIDENCE” PROGRAM:  Students experience a series of four classroom workshops over the course of a few weeks. Hands on writing exercises in half of the sessions. Contact Eileen for more information about this in-depth program.
