With a degree in Acting and Directing from Illinois State University and hard-earned experience teaching drama to 5 through 8-year-olds, Lorijo Metz has transformed her picture book, Floridius Bloom and the Planet of Gloom, illustrated by Matt Phelan and published by Dial Books for Young Readers, into a both a reader's theatre and a children's play.

The name of the game is interactive. Monster costumes, group participation and a little learning tucked in on the side. Author visits, a few examples of which are listed below, are always an option; however, don’t hesitate to take advantage of the free downloads found on the “Educators” page of my website. A coloring sheet, several lesson plans, and a full discussion brochure are available.

Author Visit (K-3): A small group presentation, one or two classrooms at a time. Presentation may include making monster costumes (material provided), screening of my book preview, a reading of Floridius Bloom and the Planet of Gloom with a keynote presentation, audience participation and discussion afterwards. Half day - 3 classroom visits: $250. Full day - 5 -6 classroom visits: $400. (Prices are always negotiable.)
