Kevin Luthardt is an author, illustrator, artist, and muralist based in the Chicago area. He graduated with a BFA in painting from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. Kevin is the author and illustrator of five picture books: YOU'RE WEIRD! (2005, Dial), HATS! (2004, Albert Whitman), LARABEE (2004, Peachtree), PEEP! (2003, Peachtree), and MINE! (2001, Atheneum). He is also the illustrator of THE VOWEL FAMILY: a Tale of Lost Letters written by Sally M. Walker, 2008, Carolrhoda) and ZOOM! written by Diane Adams (2005, Peachtree). His upcoming books include FLYING (Spring 2009). His paintings and drawings are currently represented by Mars Gallery in Chicago, and his original picture book illustrations are represented by Storyopolis in Los Angeles. He is also a muralist, creating large-scale community mural projects in schools, libraries, churches, and other venues. Kevin was the artist for the Chicago Public Library 2005 and the Illinois Library Association 2006 Summer Reading Programs. Kevin is very active in using his work to teach and inspire students of all ages
(children and adults). He has given presentations and workshops at over 300
schools, libraries, and conferences. In his interactive school and library
programs, he takes the students through the process of creating a picture book
from the basic idea to the finished product. The students will get an up close
look at sketches, drawings, and finished paintings from his books, and even
artwork he created as a child! Kevin will explain what publishers do and how a
book gets published. Students will learn the virtues of hard work, practice,
and persistence to achieve their goals. They will also learn drawing and
illustration skills as they do their own step-by-step drawing with Kevin! His
