Cynthea LiuCynthea Liu is the author of PARIS PAN TAKES THE DARE (Putnam), a humorous mystery novel for girls and boys (grades 4-7). Her novel THE GREAT CALL OF CHINA (grades 7-12) is part of Speak’s bestselling S.A.S.S. series. Her forthcoming novel WHAT I DIDN’T TELL YOU (Putnam) will be released in 2012. Cynthea also has authored WRITING FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS: A CRASH COURSE (Pivotal).

Based in Chicago, Cynthea has spoken for a number of schools in Illinois and across the country. She is a frequent guest author for American Library Association, American Association of School Librarians, Illinois School Media Library Association. She has also been a featured author in the Chicago Sun Times and on ABC Chicago 7.

Events:

Cynthea’s school visits are designed to inform, engage and inspire. Most of all, she makes learning about writing, story development, and authorship FUN. She specializes in grades 3-8 and high school. Cynthea also works for booksellers, public libraries, and book clubs according to their needs.

Presentations:

The REAL Life of an Author (large assemblies or classrooms, grades 5-12)
Includes videos, music, and a game show. Emphasis: plot, character, revision and voice.

So You Think You Can Write? A Reader’s Theater (grade-level assemblies or classrooms, grades 3-6)
Includes videos, music, and some seriously funny acting! Emphasis: story arc, revision, writing from experience.

Write at the Top of Your Voice (classrooms only, grades 5-12)
Attendees develop the one thing that makes writing stand out like no other–voice! Interactive exercises help participants gauge if their voices are cracking or singing loud and clear.

Virtual Author Visits are also available.

Format:

An ideal session with Cynthea is 45 minutes plus Q&A and a signing where every student receives an autographed bookmark or bookplate, regardless of whether or not the recipient has purchased a book.

Cynthea is very comfortable working with large and small audiences. She can speak to four grade levels in a day without sacrificing quality time with the students.

Fees:

One session: $400. Two: $600. Three/Four: $750. Locations more than a 30-mile radius from Chicago may incur travel expenses.
