Leone Castell Anderson
Leone
has moved into town from her country schoolhouse studio and loves walking
to everything (especially the library) in the northwestern Illinois town
of Stockton. She’s a former copywriter, book store owner and librarian,
and the author of nine picture books, some of which are MOVING
DAY and MY OWN GRANDPA (Golden Books) and THE
WONDERFUL SHRINKING SHIRT (Albert Whitman). Her middle-grade
historical novels set in the 1832 era of the Black Hawk War are SEAN’S
WAR and SEAN’S QUEST (ShadowPlay Press). Her
magazine stories have appeared in Highlights for Children and Cricket
Magazine, some of which have been reprinted in textbooks.
Her writing workshops/talks
for children, adapted to varying age groups, include:
- The Birth of a Book (how her books “happen”)
- Digging for Treasure (how she researches)
- What Was It Like? (readings from her novels to show what life was
like 175 years ago)
- Sensing the Magic (hands-on workshop, showing the “magic” of
using your senses)
Her fee is negotiable, usually
$200 per presentation, $500 for an all-day visit (4 classes)
She has presented many Young
Author programs, was guest author and panel member at three Illinois State
University Young Author Conferences, and gives talks and workshops at
schools, libraries, and museums throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, and elsewhere.
She also gives programs for teachers, librarians, writers, and other adult
groups. She suggests if you “google” her name, you can learn more about
her books and writing.
