Mary Dunn
About the Author
Mary Dunn lives in northern Illinois and is the author
of fiction and nonfiction books for children and young adults. Before
her career as a writer, she taught in elementary schools and then at the
community college level as a literacy specialist. Currently, she is working
on the Michael Lane Mysteries and a new primary grade series, Dream Jobs.
Sharing books with children is one of her favorite pastimes.
About the Programs
Although Ms. Dunn is willing to customize her presentation to fit specific

During the presentation, the author will share experiences about her
writing process, help the children build an academic vocabulary related
to the teacher-chosen subject, and make use of props and prompts from
her books to assist young writers to begin their own story about the topic.
For adult audiences:
• What You Need to Know to Become a Writer
During the presentation, the author will share experiences about her
writing process, discuss the stages of a writer’s work, the tools
available during the process, and the task of collaborating with an editor
to arrive at the final publication.
