Ilene Cooper is the award-winning author of more than 30 books for young people. She writes across genres, and her most-recent titles include the best-selling picture book, The Golden Rule biographies of Oprah Winfrey and John F. Kennedy (winner of the Midland Authors award for non-fiction), Jewish Holidays All Year 'Round, which received the National Jewish Book award for best book for young people. Her chapter books include Absolutely Lucy and Lucy on the Loose. She has appeared at literature festivals and young writers' workshops, where she talks to children about the writing process and demonstrates how an idea becomes a book.

For the last 20+ years Ilene has held the position of Children's Books Editor at Booklist magazine, the book review journal of the American Library; she is also available to speak to teachers and librarians about children's literature.

In 2007 Ilene Cooper won the Prairie State award for her body of work.
