Scotti Cohn
Scotti Cohn is a freelance writer and editor living in Bloomington, Illinois. She started writing at an early age. In fourth grade, she and her best friend co-authored a book and sent it to Walt Disney Studios. Although that particular manuscript was not accepted for publication, Scotti continued to write. Her short stories have appeared in numerous magazines for young people, and her poems about animals have appeared in Highlights for Children and Zootles magazines. Scotti is also the author of six adult nonfiction titles published by The Globe Pequot Press.

Scotti's presentations for children are typically 30-40 minutes long and designed for relatively small groups. A media center or school library is an ideal location. The following programs are available:

A Year in the World of Wolves with Scotti and Lobo (designed for Grades K-3; a Natural Sciences presentation)

Is There a Poem in the Picture? (designed for Grades 1-4; a Language Arts/creative writing presentation)

The Road to Publication (designed for Grades 3-6; from Idea to Promotion of a published book)

How Many Ways Can You Write about Wolves? (designed for Grades 4-6; exploration of genre)

Scotti typically charges $400 for a full day (four presentations). However, if a school purchases 24 hard cover copies of  One Wolf Howls directly from her at the suggested retail price ($16.95 per book), she does not charge for her visit. Another approach is for the school to pre-sell books to students at retail and then order the books from the publisher at a substantial discount. If schools are willing to do this, Scotti usually reduces her fee to $200.

Either way, the school can recoup most or all of its expenses for the visit.
