Lisa Cinelli is a painter, children's book author/illustrator and a Teaching Artist. She has an MA in Illustration from Syracuse University and a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since 1994 Lisa has taught Children's Book Illustration at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. All of her workshops celebrate the story found in the words and pictures in a picture book.
Workshops are adaptable for all ages and grade levels: Elementary, K-8; Secondary, 9-12; College Level; and Adult Professional Development workshops. Lisa teaches as an Artist in Residence in schools or as a Visiting Artist for one or two day workshops. Teachers can work with Lisa to create a specific curriculum connection to a workshop.
1. CAN I HAVE A PET?: Students create with text and illustrations an eight page emergent reader based on Gwendolyn Hudson Hooks's Bebop Book CAN I HAVE A PET?
2. Pictures Tell the Story in a Fairy Tale and Folk Tale: After reading several fairy tales and folk tales, students reset the stage and setting and retell one of their favorite stories using cut paper and mixed media.
3. Illustration Techniques Recorded in an Accordion Book: Students create a three dimensional accordion book and fill it with a variety of artmaking and picture book illustration exercises. Students investigate the connection between words and pictures on a page.
